Starkman & Zhang Lawyers is a litigation-focused boutique law firm with expertise spanning commercial litigation, real estate disputes, construction matters, landlord-tenant issues, injunctions, and cross-border arbitration. Our lawyers regularly appear before Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court, and the Court of Appeal.

We are currently seeking to hire Associate Lawyers, Articling Students, and Legal Assistants to join our growing litigation practice.
We are interested in candidates who are motivated, detail-oriented, and genuinely interested in litigation work—not volume or transactional practice.
Open Positions
Associate Lawyers
We are seeking Associate Lawyers who are interested in developing a serious litigation practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Call to the Ontario Bar (or pending call)
- Litigation experience or demonstrated interest in litigation
- Experience drafting pleadings, motion materials, affidavits, and facta
- Comfort with court appearances, discoveries, or motion practice (an asset, but not required)
Associates at our firm receive hands-on responsibility, direct mentorship from senior litigators, and exposure to contested motions, trials, and appeals.
Articling Students
We are looking for articling students who:
- Have strong academic records
- Are interested in advocacy and dispute resolution
- Are eager to learn litigation skills through real file work
Articling Experience Includes
- Legal research and drafting
- Assisting with pleadings, motions, and factums
- Attending court, discoveries, mediations, and trials
- Direct mentorship and feedback
This is not a paper-pushing articling position. Students are expected to engage meaningfully with files and litigation strategy.
Legal Assistants
We are also seeking experienced or motivated Legal Assistants to support our litigation practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in litigation file management
- Familiarity with court filing procedures and deadlines
- Strong document formatting and organizational skills
- Legal practice management software experience (asset)
- Mandarin proficiency strongly preferred
General Qualifications (All Positions)
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability
- Professional judgment and strong work ethic
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a litigation environment
- Comfort working directly with lawyers, clients, and opposing counsel
