Bio

Ting (Helen) Lu is a legally trained professional supporting complex civil, administrative, and commercial disputes, with a particular focus on cross-border matters involving Chinese and Canadian legal systems. Her background combines advanced legal education in both jurisdictions with hands-on experience in contentious litigation and dispute support.

Having been trained and practised as a lawyer in China and later completing advanced legal education and accreditation in Canada, Helen offers valuable cross-jurisdictional insight. Her experience allows her to support litigation strategy with an understanding of foreign-law context, regulatory frameworks, and cultural considerations that often arise in international and cross-border disputes.

Canadian Legal Education and Accreditation

Helen completed her LL.M. in Canadian Common Law at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, where she studied the foundations of the Canadian legal system, civil procedure, and substantive areas of common law. Her studies provided her with a comprehensive understanding of Canadian litigation principles and court processes.

She is NCA-qualified as of November 2024, reflecting her successful completion of the National Committee on Accreditation process and her readiness to transition into legal practice in Canada.

Legal Training and Practice in China

Prior to her legal training in Canada, Helen received a rigorous legal education in China. She earned a Bachelor of Law and subsequently an LL.M. in Constitutional Law and Administrative Law from Fudan University in Shanghai, one of China’s leading universities. Her academic training emphasized public law, administrative decision-making, and constitutional principles.

Helen practised as a licensed lawyer in Mainland China from 2015 onward. From 2019 to 2023, she worked at Hengdu Law Firm in Shanghai, where she handled a wide range of contentious matters, including commercial disputes, partnership conflicts, civil litigation, and family-related cases. Many of these files involved significant factual complexity and required careful procedural management.

Complex and Large-Scale Disputes

Helen participated in large-scale private investment fund litigation involving billions of RMB in alleged investment losses and large numbers of affected investors. Her work included legal analysis, due diligence, document review, and support of litigation strategy in matters requiring coordination across extensive records and multiple stakeholders.

These cases strengthened her ability to manage complex factual materials, support coordinated litigation efforts, and assist counsel in balancing legal, procedural, and client-management considerations.

Administrative and Regulatory Matters

In addition to commercial litigation, Helen gained experience in administrative and compliance-related matters. Her work included drafting legal documents, conducting regulatory analysis, and assisting clients with compliance reviews and responses to government decision-making.

This background provides a strong foundation for supporting administrative law proceedings and disputes involving regulatory frameworks, institutional discretion, and public decision-making in the Canadian context.

Litigation Support in Canada

After relocating to Canada, Helen worked as a Legal Assistant at Hamilton Legal Group from March 2024 to December 2024. In this role, she supported lawyers across administrative law, estate and trust disputes, guardianship matters, powers of attorney litigation, and immigration law.

Cross-Border Perspective and Language Capability

A defining feature of Helen’s profile is her cross-jurisdictional perspective. Having been trained and practised as a lawyer in China and later completing advanced legal education and accreditation in Canada, she is well positioned to support cross-border disputes and international clients.

Helen is fluent in Mandarin and English, enabling her to work directly with Chinese-speaking clients and review Chinese-language legal and commercial documents without reliance on third-party translation. This capability improves efficiency and accuracy in matters involving overseas transactions or proceedings.
