Bio

William Wang is practicing in association with Starkman & Zhang Lawyers, advising businesses and individuals on corporate and commercial matters, real estate, e-commerce, and personal matters, with a focus on practical, business-minded solutions. He also advises on healthcare, privacy, and other regulated-sector matters from a risk-based, commercially oriented perspective.

William’s practice is distinguished by a rare combination of legal and clinical expertise. Called to the Ontario Bar in 2025 after completing his Juris Doctor at Western University with a concentration in Intellectual Property, Information, and Technology, he also holds a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the University of Toronto. This dual background gives him a depth of understanding in healthcare, pharmacy, and life sciences that few commercial lawyers can match.

Clients rely on William for clear analysis, disciplined judgment, and advice that is legally sound and commercially realistic. He is known for a practical approach that aligns legal outcomes with clients’ broader business objectives.

Education

  • J.D., Western University, Faculty of Law — Concentration in Intellectual Property, Information and Technology
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), University of Toronto, Faculty of Pharmacy — Dean’s Honor List (2012–2013); II Honors (overall ranking)
  • Called to the Bar of Ontario, 2025

Legal Experience

William articled at Torys LLP in Toronto (2024–2025) after serving as a 2L summer student at the same firm. At Torys, he conducted legal research and prepared memoranda on regulatory, intellectual property, and tax litigation issues, and drafted submissions to Health Canada on food and drug regulatory matters — including product submissions, data protection requests, and responses to access-to-information requests. He advised hospitals and pharmacies on compounding, expanded scope of practice, and regulatory college investigations.

William also performed legal diligence and drafted transaction documents on significant commercial deals, including the $235 million financing by Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan in StackAdapt, and led comprehensive contract reviews and negotiated amendments across a range of commercial engagements.

Subsequently, William served as a Document Review Lawyer at Deloitte, Toronto, supporting high-volume e-discovery matters, compiling breach-related data inventories and custodian lists, and assisting incident-response teams with document compilations and reporting.

Healthcare & Regulatory Background

Before law, William practiced as a pharmacist for over seven years. He served as an Oncology Pharmacist at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto (2020–2021), where he managed investigational drug accountability and systems for six clinical trials, conducted oncology literature reviews for clinical teams, and prepared chemotherapy for approximately thirty patients daily with zero medication errors.

Earlier, William was a Clinical Pharmacist at Owen Sound Hospital (2018–2020), providing care across a 35-bed inpatient unit covering neurology, oncology, and infectious disease, and coordinating operations across seven satellite hospital pharmacies within a 60-km radius. He spearheaded a pharmacy–nursing workflow redesign that improved communication efficiency and freed additional nursing time for patient care. He continues to serve as a Clinical Pharmacist at Northwest Telepharmacy Solutions, managing drug therapy problems for over fifty patients daily using evidence-based medicine.

This clinical experience gives William rare subject-matter fluency in healthcare regulation, pharmacy practice, and life sciences — areas where technical depth materially improves the quality of legal advice.

Privacy & Technology

William is a Certified Information Privacy Professional / Canada (CIPP/C) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Combined with his law school concentration in Intellectual Property, Information and Technology, this equips him to advise clients on privacy compliance, data protection, technology contracts, and IP matters arising in e-commerce and digital-first businesses.

Languages

William is fluent in English and speaks Mandarin at a native level. He is also actively learning French (currently A1, CEFR). His language capability allows him to advise Mandarin-speaking clients on complex commercial and regulatory matters without reliance on intermediaries.

Professional Affiliations & Bar Admissions

William is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2025. He is a Part A Pharmacist with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (2018) and a Certified Information Privacy Professional / Canada through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (CIPP/C, 2026).
